SPIRIT SAILS AGAIN !
After a long and laborious lay-up in Trinidad, Spirit is now back on the water making her way across the Atlantic to Oysterhaven. With an eclectic crew of six, including myself, my daughter Emma, Gerry who sailed with me from Portugal to the Cape Verdes and on across the Atlantic in 2002, Oisin an oceanography graduate who has sailed from New Zealand to Fiji, Isaias, a professional wilderness photographer and Brandon, our most recent addition to the crew who is a widely travelled adventurer from Seattle, we arrived in The Azores on Thursday 27th May after experiencing the full range of weather conditions from flat calms to gale force winds.
We plan on leaving the Azores in early June with a new crew consisting of myself, my son Alexander and several of his college friends Liza, Ivo and Ceiran who have all just graduated with him from NUIG, arriving back in Oysterhaven around the 21st June.
We have no immediate plans for Spirit during the summer, although short trips to Glandore and Baltimore seem enticing after such a long absence, and maybe we'll check our Cork Week for a couple of days if we have time. Later in the year, in early September we plan on taking Spirit down to Spain, to lay-up for the winter and - reluctantly - prepare her for sale. Anyone interested in joining for his trip should email sinead@oysterhaven.com
Hope you enjoy following our adventures.
