Experiential learning lies at the heart of our secondary school curriculum programmes. The Oysterhaven Centre offers a range of Educational Activity Days suitable for both the junior and senior secondary school cycles. With qualified and experienced instructors we aim to provide education, challenge and adventure in a safe learning environment.

All our Secondary School Programmes are designed to meet the demands of the national curriculum syllabus for junior and senior cycles providing:

  • Opportunities for participants to grow personally and socially
  • A positive attitude to watersports and adventure activities
  • Skills and techniques for the safe enjoyment of adventure activities

 

Multi-Activity Day Educational Tour

 

A full on day of Watersports and Adventure Course action! On the water students develop their paddling skills kayaking on single and double kayaks, enjoy a fast and furious game of waterpolo and demonstrate teamwork paddling our inflatable rafts. Ashore, students enjoy the infamous 'Jungle Quest' Adventure Course, where they test their balance, swing, pull, slip and slide as they work in teams to negotiate rope bridges, swinging poles, water crossings and surprise challenges along the way.

 

Transition Year Programmes

Transition Year is designed to offer students an opportunity to Transition Year is designed to offer students an opportunity to develop and mature without exam pressure. Our modules focus on developing personal and social skills for teenagers with an emphasis on Leadership and Teamwork. We recommend that you choose two of the modules below.
 

Group Leadership & Teambuilding

This module is designed to prepare students for working in an adult environment and prepares youths to manage time, work as a team and set goals. Students also get the opportunity to express themselves in front of a group by making a presentation. Icebreakers and energisers are followed by a series of fun team tasks and challenges.

Aquafun

Students develop their paddling skills, kayaking on single and double kayaks. Following this they enjoy a fast and furious game of waterpolo, finally they work as a team while paddling our inflatable blue rafts and then test their balance on our every popular ‘Moonwalk'.

Team Challenge

'Jungle Quest' is our Adventure Course, where working in teams, the youths test their balance, swing, pull, slip and slide as they negotiate rope bridges, swinging poles, water crossings and surprise challenges along the way.
 

Watersports Skills Sessions

Sailing or Windsurfing or Sea Kayaking Skills. Students can use these as part of their Gaisce Award.

Dinghy Sailing

Using single handed Topaz dinghies and Picos or double handed Fevas and following the Irish Sailing  syllabus students develop their sailing skills at an appropriate level from Beginners to Improvers to Advanced level. Irish Sailing certification is awarded at the end each course via checklick

Windsurfing

The Irish sailing Go! Windsurfing scheme was pioneered at Oysterhaven and the “accelerated learning” techniques enable young windsurfers to quickly master the basics and experience the freedom and exhilaration of this exciting sport. Progress is recorded in your personal Windsurfing Logbook on checklick
